Insert Bits

Insert Bits

Replaceable Insert Bits are a “pay me now or pay me later” product. They are a fairly expensive investment up front but in the long run they will not only save you time in production they will increase your bottom line over non insert bits. An insert bit consists of a “body” and a carbide cutter. The cutter is held onto the body with either two or three small screws. The inserts on these particular cutters are two sided so they can actually be used twice as long. The cutters are less expensive than having a bit sharpened so they save you money in the long run. Another advantage often overlooked is that using sharp cutters produces a smoother cut reducing sanding time. Dull cutters are often used in a shop while waiting for cutters to be returned from sharpening. Having an insert available eliminates the need to use dull cutters. Sharpening bits reduces their diameter and in many cases can also increase sanding time. If you are using a flush cutter you will find that as the bit is reduced in diameter the quality of the cut being flush is reduced.
