Straight Edges and Corners

 

Phenolic Straight Edges and Corners

The only straight edges we now carry are these Phenolic interlocking edges. They are 5" wide and are available in various lengths. There are also a variety of radius inside and outside corners and angles available. Unlike more expensive aluminum edges these edges are easily repaired with automotive Bondo when they get damaged, and they will get damaged. When Aluminum Edges are damaged they need to be re-milled. This repair is often more expensive than the original edge cost.

The edges have an accurate interlocking system that allows for angles and corners to be easily attached. Two straight edges can be interlocked with the Joining Plate but accuracy may be lost. The longest edge we offer is 96". If a longer edge is required we suggest that you place the 96" edge on the counter where you would like to rout and attach three glue blocks behind it with hot melt glue; one at each end and one in the middle. Slide the edge along the glue blocks until you reach the length required and place a fourth glue block behind the edge. The edge can now be slid along the blocks while your are routing and the end result will be a seamless, flawless, straight edge.

When routing with these edges you can use a Top Bearing Template bit which will cut flush to the template. Using this method allows you to place the edge exactly where you want to cut. Many fabricators prefer to use Template guides. Template guides insert in the bottom of the router plate and the bit passes through the guide. The guide rides along the straight edge. When using this method you will need to account for the offset (the distance from the edge of the bit to the outside edge of the guide).

If you plan to use the outside of one radius to fit into the inside of a matching radius you will need to use a Top Bearing Template Bit.
